Camping trip: useful tips

Going on a camping trip is a choice that will save you the costs of the trip, allowing you to spend a few days in direct contact with nature. Camping holidays can be fun and adventurous if you have the spirit of adaptation. But you will not find yourself sipping a welcome drink on the bed of a 4-star hotel, nor will you be able to unwrap the chocolate lying on the bed while testing its comfort.

I made many camping trips, when I was little and as an adult: in the organized campsites of southern Italy, up to the experiences during the Scouts, and my solo trip along with Northern Sardinia. Traveling with a tent on your back and experiencing the adventure of adapting to the spartan life of a campsite can be a fun experience, why not try it?

Organizing a trip: what you need

As always, before leaving, prepare and check all the equipment you need to spend one or more nights in a tent. You will therefore need, in addition to the tent, a sleeping bag, more or less heavy compared to the season, and a comfortable mattress. During my travels, now accustomed to the hardness of the ground, I slept directly on the ground, at most with a folding wick under my back.

If you want to sleep more comfortably, you can choose an inflatable mattress: you will find hundreds of them. From the almost “disposable” mats, like my first mat given as a gift during the summer with the purchase of a package of Gallo rice, to the more tactical camping mats, which can also be used to go to the beach without the risk of breaking.

Then remember that to organize life in a campsite you will need to have the necessary equipment available to wash, eat and live comfortably inside your tent. So don’t forget to bring a small stove, a tin, pots and some cutlery with you to eat.

So in summary, what does it take to go camping? Here is a short list:

Hey, do you want to find a low-cost flight? If like me you are a travel enthusiast and you want to find the offer of a low-cost flight that you cannot give up, you are in the right place!

  1. Logistics

Tenza, backpack, sleeping bag, mat, cutlery, lanyard (do you want to hang out the clothes?), A torch with battery replacement (even better if with dynamo), a stove for the kitchen, pots, and plates (or a military rank). Everything you will need for cooking (oil, salt, pepper, a little pasta, a few jars of sauce) and for washing the dishes. Don’t forget hygiene: carefully prepare your backpack for the bathroom with everything you need to wash. This is to avoid spending too much money in small shops found in tourist areas.

  1. Convenience

In addition to the basic equipment, remember that you are on vacation! So, compared to what you want to be comfortable, you can bring with you: chairs and an outdoor table, extensions for electricity, a pump to inflate the mattresses, and an anti-mosquito lotion. Concerning the destination, also remember to bring suitable clothes and shoes to cope with every possible situation.

Prepare your backpack carefully and don’t forget a small first aid kit either.

Where to travel in camping: ideas to leave

You will find many ideal places for those who love nature and relaxation and many cheap campsites in Italy and Europe. I slept in tents in most of the Simbruini and Ernici Mountains and many beautiful places in central and northern Italy. I spent weeks getting lost on the coasts of Northern Spain and every time I was happy with the choice. Falling asleep on the beach, under a starry sky, has no comparison with a hotel room.

To choose a good campsite, remember to check its proximity to the place where you want to spend your holidays. Often the campsite is located in pine forests away from the sea, to access which you have to walk a few kilometers. Do not underestimate the presence of basic services such as a bar, a mini-market, internet access, and internal laundry. They are small services that will allow you to think only about the trip and have fun avoiding having to reach the nearest country every time you need something.

To decide which campsite to choose, you can start by taking a look at the Booking.com website, in the campings section, select the region and choose your campsite or you can select and find the best campsites in Italy by connecting to the Tripadvisor website.
