Traveling to Australia

What to see in Australia? ten places you cannot miss

Australia is a huge country with millions of interesting things to see: culture, natural parks, modern cities, and charming villages. Therefore, if you are thinking of traveling to Australia or you are already here, you will be in a mess, because what are the places to visit in Australia? What can’t you miss before your visa expires?

Ayers Rock

Also known as Uluru,  Ayers Rock is a rock formation found in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. It is a sacred place for the Australian aborigines who call it “the navel of the world”.

If you like Jamiroquai, you may have already seen Ayers Rock in their video clip for “ Stillness in Time ”. To visit it you will have to travel 450 km from the nearest city, Alice Springs. Would you like to sleep over there? Well, look.

Once you are there you can take different routes. Most surround Uluru. You may be tempted to upload it, but be careful, it is very frowned upon by the locals, remember! It is a sacred place, so do not climb it, you can still hallucinate looking at it from below and walking around.

The Twelve Apostles

Places to visit in Australia

In the Port Campbell National Park (in the state of Victoria) these limestone rock formations are found beaten by the sea. Now there are only 10 of the twelve “apostles” left, but it is still impressive to see what the force of the waves can do. In addition, you will be able to take some impressive photos, especially if you are there in the early morning and late afternoon.

The Park is located about three hours from Melbourne and is a mandatory stop for the most emblematic Australian road trips.

The Pinnacles

They are formations found in the Nambung National Park, 200 km north of  Perth. The image is very curious because a lot of mounds spontaneously emerge from the sand, like “here we have decided to leave and they won’t move us from here”. Once again it is an example of how nature is the best architecture that we can imagine.

If you want to visit the Park, a good place to sleep may be Lancelin, 50 minutes away, more or less, and with many rental options for apartments and houses.

The Great Barrier Reef

We go to the other end. You know this yes or yes. To visit it, it is normal to do it by taking a boat from  Cairns, just snorkeling is a lot of fun because incredible species are seen at a shallow depth.

It is the largest coral reef in the world and can be seen from space. You know; the Chinese Wall, the Great Barrier Reef, and the greenhouses of Almería.

To dive in it you have different options, there are some tours that offer snorkeling from platforms installed in the sea or cruises that for a day or even several days make many stops where you can dive. It’s up to you!

If you like scuba diving, take a look at this article in which we tell you about the best places to dive in Australia, of course, we include the Great Barrier Reef, but there are many more.

Blue Mountains

We recently published a whole guide to visiting the  Blue Mountains and now we are talking about them again. Without wishing to be heavy, we love them! Not just the typical peaks, but the entire area with its waterfalls and natural pools, its little villages, and its fantastic viewpoints.

A strong point of this natural park is that it is super close to Sydney, so if visiting the area you feel like a bit of nature, you can go to the Blue Mountains to spend an unforgettable day.

If you are one of those who prefer to hire a tour so as not to miss any corner of the Blue Mountains in Dingoos we have a discount for you with Autopia Tours.

Fraser Island

This island is our second home… just imagine, it even has a dingo beach! because it is one of the areas where there are more dingoes in Australia.

It is the largest sand island in the world and is reached by ferry from Hervey Bay, which is about three and a half hours from Brisbane. You can sleep on the island, there are some affordable accommodation options, or spend the day there and come back. Of course, keep in mind that it is quite large, so if you want to visit it quietly, it is better to stay a couple of days. Nature is brutal and you can bathe in its natural lakes.

The Great Ocean Road

More than a place in itself,  we could describe the Great Ocean Road as an iconic experience in Australia. Living it consists of driving along a legendary road, built by ex-combatants of World War I (you cannot exceed 80 km per hour) and that for 250 km passes through places as special as The Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge ( 13 minutes from the 12 Apostles) or the Otway Forest.

Rent your car or van and enjoy! You’re going to take some stunning shots and see landscapes that will blow your mind (in a good way).

If you prefer to be taken, the best thing is to hire a tour, at Dingoos we have a discount for you with Autopia Tours.

Tasmania

Hell and much more… incredible beaches, lakes, mountains… in short… a natural paradise that many people don’t travel to when they come to Australia because being an island it gets quite out of hand. You can fly from Sydney to Hobart for about $100 AUD, and to visit it well, you need to stay at least one week.

Of course, keep in mind that it is very cold in Tasmania, especially in the wildest area, so be prepared with a coat and choose the Australian summer to visit. But… if you have the slightest opportunity, don’t miss it, you’re going to hallucinate.

Byron Bay

It is a small town that is south of the Gold Coast and has a lot of charm. Its registered inhabitants are around 4,000, but it is very touristy, in a good way because it is not mass tourism. There is a mix of surfer and hippie atmosphere, the beaches are great and the beers on their terraces too.

Melbourne

Do you want to visit a big Australian city, but you’re in a mess? Well, we recommend Melbourne. The center is very beautiful, it has neighborhoods for all tastes, the cultural scene moves a lot and you have St Kilda, the beach with the colored houses that you have seen in thousands of photos of Australia. Melbourne, without discrediting Sydney, is our recommendation if you cannot visit both.
